About

Hello! My name is Sarah, and I am a 22-year-old undergraduate student at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. I am from Boston, love unicorns, and am terrible at singing, but what I lack in vocal ability I try to make up in other artistic fields!

I am pursuing a double major in Architecture and Political Science, two disciplines that I think of as in a symbiotic relationship. Studying the world through multiple lenses has given me the ability to constantly draw parallels between disparate subjects (often at the same time as I am literally drawing parallel lines with my drafting table).

Through my years learning about design, culture, and people, I have been able to cultivate a fluid design process and aesthetic that merges academic research with “design thinking”, resulting in architecture that is thoughtful, contextual, and based on a grassroots understanding of how to construct a sense of place.

I am currently looking for internship opportunities in the Boston area for Summer 2017; if you are interested in having me as a member of your team, feel free to contact me at sarah.austin@hws.edu, or 781-325-6296.

A hackathon is an event designed to innovate new ideas that address complex problems. Hackathons originated in the technology field and have slowly been applied to new spaces like social innovation. Typically, teams receive a topic and have 24 hours to “hack” it. They are fast-paced, high energy and produce ideas that are intended to address challenges, transform communities, improve systems or create products or services that change the way we interact with our world, communities, and with each other.
