Hudson River Performing Arts Center

A local arts group is developing a new performing arts facility to accommodate music and theater performances. The facility is located on a reconstructed pier on the Hudson River. The open space of the pier, developed as part of the project, will be a public park and serve as a venue for outdoor performances. The building includes a 500-seat theater, public areas and support spaces.

The building design is composed of a bold undulating roof sheltering the interior spaces. The roof has two projections - the volume of the theater auditorium and a skylight over the lobby stairs. A grand staircase, illuminated by a skylight, leads to a mezzanine lobby for theatergoers. This lobby has sweeping views to the north and south of the river, the Palisades and the Manhattan skyline. Within the auditorium space a view of the skyline can be seen as a dramatic backdrop to the stage. The stage also serves the lawn on the pier for outdoor concerts.
