Sitting on a rise in a verdant landscape overlooking a manicured public golf course with dramatic views of the Manhattan skyline in the distance, the historic NYC-owned Douglaston Manor underwent a thorough rehabilitation. Now run by a private operator as a banquet, conference and dining establishment, the 1920’s Mediterranean-style villa is again an important social destination for surrounding communities.
Our design included several additions and a comprehensive renovation of the building’s exterior and interiors. The surrounding landscape was also redesigned to provide dramatic outdoor spaces including a new entrance plaza with a wonderful crescent-shaped fountain and, in the rear, a terrace overlooking the golf course and distant skyline. The result is a memorable resuscitation of this beloved historic building that allowed it to regain its important architectural stature and place in the city.
