“Thin Living” is an extension of the Boyd Theater located immediately adjacent to the given site in Philadelphia PA. The theater is composed of two parts; the entry lobby abutting the site and the theater. Many events take place within the theater: the act of promenading, viewing, performing, and the intangible acts taking place backstage. Thin Living takes in these functions and re-inserts them back into the source both literally and figuratively.
Living spaces are provided for employees along with offices for theater management. The most intimate of functions are further integrated in the program: performance and the act of viewing with physical overlap. The performance space is extended and punched back into lobby. The office spaces are extended into lobby with dramatic shifts. Within these spaces, the theater viewer entering the lobby now becomes the viewed.
