My personal design philosophy focuses on materials and their ability to enhance our perceived experience. Philip Johnson once said, “All architecture is shelter, all great architecture is the design of space that contains, cuddles, exalts, or stimulates the persons in that space”. I strongly believe in this posit made by Johnson. But perhaps in addition, I think a major contributor to this ideology is in the way we arrange and treat materials in space.

Outside of an academic setting I have pursued independent research through furniture design. Designing and constructing furniture allows me to address large architectural concepts but at a smaller more intimate human scale. Building furniture has also become a means to understand the workability of materials and explore tectonic details at a 1:1 ratio.
