SCI-Arc ESTm is a one-year (three-term) intensive post-professional degree program leading to a Master of Design Research in Emerging Systems Technologies & Media(ESTm). The ESTm program is a rigorous and experimental program that aims to define new platforms for design innovation fusing digital and physical research within the rapidly evolving fields of computation, material fabrication, advanced building systems and immersive media.

The ESTm Program is conceived as an intensive design and research laboratory and uniquely tailored for applicants with a professional degree in architecture, engineering and industrial design seeking a postgraduate degree. The Program focus explicitly on technology as it applies to the present and future of design, computation, media, digital fabrication, robotic manufacturing, sustainable engineering, material ecologies and novel tectonics.

Specifically constructed for this program, the new SCI-Arc Robotic Lab is the most progressive facility of its kind in the US academic environment and one of the world’s most advanced. Utilizing this and other platforms, ESTm Faculty and Students will explore new production paradigms envisioning the future of synthetic material, free form assembly and automated manufacturing in close collaboration with partners within and beyond the architecture building industry.

Testing new levels of environmental performance that will be the basis for design practices in the 21st century, ESTm students are prepared to successfully integrate formal, technical, logistical, and material processes into advanced architectural design. Over the course of one year of study and working with the most progressive architects, designers and theorists worldwide, students will inventively define the next-generation of architecture in the form of specific projects, structural morphologies, sophisticated material prototypes, and complex construction systems
