Dandenong Housing

‘Less is more’ a theory by Mies Van Der Rohe which relates back to the idea of less walls. Based on the site orientation where it is located at the intersection street and facing South-West. My intention is to get the North point and dividing up to six units housing. Using the system of joinery and service core around the house, the inner walls are attached together and placed at the center of the plan. This provides a direct access from the entrance and creates the on-going circulation within the house. The plan shows that the house opens wide to the back courtyard rather than the street. To keep the privacy inside the house but not completely close up the façade, the openings are located above people’s height to avoid direct glaring. According to the key idea, the form of the houses is angled in a way that each house gets the most of the sunlight by the meaning to put skylight at the rooftop. On top of that, it was designed to bring people together and have their own community without cross-passing neighbourhood territory. Threshold from the main street to private houses and from semi-private garden to the inner of public park. In a particular way of turning its back inside and opens up on the interior but it is very hard on the outside. This enables people to feel empowered and excited to be in the places they interact in their daily lives.
