Core House

Core I House is part of an ongoing experiment in creating an open and efficient floor plan by gathering the utilities and service spaces into a central core. The restrooms and closets are grouped together in the core on both levels along with a mechanical closet and a washer and dryer. This allows the living space on the first floor to flow around the core, only outling general areas without partitions. The second level features two bedrooms, connected by a short hall that over looks the living room. The central concrete core has structural benefits by reducing shear loads and floor joist spans as well. The incline of the front wall emphasizes privacy to the approaching visitor while the back wall lazily slopes back as a gesture towards the view beyond. Core I House is simple, open, and free.
