Thyssen Krupp elevator Architecture Award – Tall emblem Structure in Za’abeel Park

The Fantasia Towers Concept:To well balance the volume of the struc-ture with the neighbouring architectures, a group of varying height structures in motion is better than a static single large tower of rigid geometries on this site. Therefore, we proposed an iconic group of curvilin-ear sculptures with fluid movements-- five Fantasia Towers that symbolize the city’s multicultural settings, inspired by its unique culture, calligraphy and fashion, natural environment. They represent the people of Dubai, dancing, cheering and celebrating for the city’s achievement. The number five is chosen based on the symbolism of the Olympic Rings. 3D Modeling/ Design Process:The modeling was done in 3dsMax. One tower was lofted first, then multiplied with ro-tation, displacement and variation in scale. The model and the CAD master plan were imported to Revit where sections were cut at various levels for design study purpose. In CAD, the foot print was adjusted and made workable to meet program require-ment. Automatically, the CAD foot print was updated in 3dsMax. The locations of the 5 towers were then finalized in 3dsMax. In 3dsMax, using one of the towers as refer-ence, after rotations, stretching, and bool-ean, the roof of the podium was construct-ed. Other program elements were then added to complete the design. The final model was imported to Revit again to produce floor plans at different levels. Rendering was done in 3dsMax.
