Shanghai Hearing-Impaired School

Year 2 final project:

There are 21 million people in china who suffer from hearing difficulties and my project starts out with an attempt to provide education to the hearing - impaired community. However, a typical hearing - impaired school only focuses on signing and can neglect the interaction between the hearing and non-hearing people. Therefore, the proposal is for a new form of education system through the architecture by combining both hearing and hearing-impaired schools in the same building, adopting the american academy education system. There are two separated entrances and two different circulations in the building, both schools function on their own and the students do not cross path during lessons, but they will be able to interact with each other in the communal spaces. the proposal is for a new archetypal model of education where hearing and hearing - impaired students occupy the same building.
