The Boathouse design is meant to respect its shoreline; balancing on the edge, deftly cutting the water like the prow of a rowing shell. Relationship of the structure to the water is a critical element in the complex interaction between land and reservoir. The building maintains a low profile, but extrudes over the water’s edge giving it prominence and providing views of the land and water as well as regatta events. Articulation of the façade blends elements from the nearby iconic Lowell Covered Bridge and an Istanbul FerryTerminal half a world away and demonstrates how world travel and life experience influences architectural design.
