A writer’s inspiration may be found in countless places within the Lake Villa Sanctuary Design. The unexpected glow of sun-washed bricks, visceral beauty of a nearby reflecting pool, repetitive shadows of rough-hewn beams and uninterrupted lake and mountain views are conducive to quiet contemplation and pursuit of creative fulfillment. The built structures are simple and compact utilizing indigenous materials, and as a result, harmonize and meld with their surrounding environment.
Lake Villa was my first studio project at the University of Oregon. Upon completion it was archived by the department and showcased at the 2009 Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture conference in Portland, Oregon.
