The project, A Center for the Study and Appreciation of Landscape, is located on the uniquely landscaped volcanic Canary Island of Lanzarote, Spain. The main concept of the project is to create a building that is about the landscape. A project that relates to earth, landscape, and sky.

The project is surreal on approach. Before entering, there is a long path over the spaces of the building which is hidden under black lava rock. The path appears to hover over the rock curving around the courtyard spaces below. The project contains three courtyards, two used for living and one used for study. These courtyards emerge from the ground creating a crater like shape. The courtyards from inside give views to the outside. Each courtyard can also be viewed from the other two...

Each courtyard can also be viewed from the other two courtyards, making the building very open even though underground. These courtyards also provide natural ventilation throughout the building.
