The Shangri La Casino, owned and managed by its parent corporation Storm International, is located on the Pushkin Square - the business and cultural center of Russia’s capital. As a designated historic site, Tom designed and managed the project team for this facility, which was planned for a dynamic interior expansion and renovation to increase their existing 45 table games and 220 slots. Above three gaming areas (the Shangri La, Macao, and the X.O.), there is an existing 3000 seat traditional theater planned to be renovated into three motion picture theaters accommodating a total of 750 seats. The residual floor area along with added interstitial floors will increase this landmark with over 500 slot machines and 30 table games.
Tom designed an expansion of the casino floors incorporating Tibet’s geographical settings with mountains, meandering rivers, waterfalls and lush gardens. Further complementing the setting and atmosphere, is the architectural elements such as castle like stone towers, cupolas, bridges, arched palaces. Expansion of this facility will extend into a four story adjacent hotel building, which will supplement presently under accommodated back-of-house support, services, offices and mechanical systems. The remaining portion of this hotel building, with an addition of two floors, will accommodate luxury hotel rooms/suites to complement the Shangri La patrons.
The estimated construction cost for this unique entertainment facility is approximately $20,000,000.
