Create a permanent installation for the contemporary
art museum in Ichihara, Japan that leads visitors
through the exterior circulation spaces to the roof terrace.
CRITERIA AND PROCESS
Our aim was to create a functional installation that
would provide visitors with seating and shelter in the
corridors and on the roof.
We propose to use a fuzzy mass made up of cast acrylic
rods which travels upwards through the hallways
and to the roof making seating, canopies, and patterns
along the way. This mass reshapes many of the spaces
forcing visitors to negotiate their way through the
dense spaces. On the roof some of the vertical rods are
structure which supports a solid canopy which frames
views to the surrounding landscape.
