In the Comprehensive Studio, I partnered with Brian Williams to design a new Center of Innovation for the University of Virginia. The building was intended to create a new hub for the University community and serve as a gathering point for students/professors from diverse academic backgrounds and interests. We investigated circulation systems at the scale of the city as well as at the scale of the human body and thought of the innovation center as the new heart, or Grand Central of the University. The building is concentrated in size as a way of creating density in thought and imagination throughout the building 24/7. It was important for us to make spaces that encouraged collaboration and also for the building itself to be didactic.
