Thesis- The city of Shanghai’s openness to the world and its rich culture offer pivotal attributes for which a Critical Regionalism approach to design can manifest. By embracing a global and regional approach to design, architecture is able to modernize while retaining the culture of a region, creating a fusion between the globalization of architecture and an enduring entity of a culture. The city’s culinary blend of regional Chinese, local and Western cuisines further promotes a setting and enduring culture that can fuse with the responsive nature of global design.
