SE Engineering Firm

/// Integration /
The SE Engineering firm is a project developed around the seamless integration of designed form and mechanical based systems which treat and sustain the built environment. The engineering firm, as a client, specifies a technologically advanced building system and interior structure to reflect the advanced idealogy of practice. The building utlimately becomes a vivid image of what typology of work the engineers and employees of SE undergo on a daily basis. This maintained image of engineered progress is balanced on the ground level by several large scale public and semi-public spaces. The balance of public city-space and interior work-space works on a parallel - reflective of the way in which the building is designed and informed by the systems which sustain the interior and exterior built
environment.

/// Form /
The project is designed to maximize daylighting and open green space by limiting floor slabs to the perimeter of the site constraints. In doing so, the center of the site becomes a city scaled public courtyard and green space utilized by passers-by as well as staff from SE Engineering. The angle of sunlight on in annual basis works in favor of the screened glass walls of three sides of both building blocks. The floor slabs are pulled in from the window wall to maximize natural light and natural ventilation between floors.

/// Material Palette /
Material choice for the building reflects the temporary nature of most urban office type buildings. Concrete and corten steel make up the primary and secondary structural systems. These materials are long lasting and durable to last the duration of several potentially different building inhabitants. Mechanical systems naturally wear over time, therefore these systems are designed and set into built form in such a way they can be easily removed and replaced without devasting the integrity of the building’s design and core elements.
