In order to review and respond to the issues of public safety and habitation in high-rise buildings in the post 9/11 era, the studio set out to develop innovative designs for a 100+ story, mixed use tower incorporating improved public safety features, as well as appropriate structural systems and energy efficient concepts. A site across from Lincoln Center at Broadway between 65th and 64th streets was selected to give a rich cultural basis for the design, one that could help provide a regional marker for this international center for the preforming arts. The focal point for this project ultimetly became the development of a dynamic program conception which was enriched through a proficient understanding of the necessary structural and safety design considerations and acted as the basis for cultural exchange .
