Fiber Face

Done in partnership with Jing Meng Feng, the building comes together as a hybrid composition of aesthetic characteristics, a coalescence of contrarieties. The combination of distinctly different vocabularies alludes to the programatic versatility in the scope. The design strategy features a hard edged shell that rests on a geometrically soft under-belly and both components bear different texture qualities. These articulations of the envelope originated from a process of algorithmic outputs. The fenestration of the shell above is governed by a swarm of metalic fibers running in different directions. While the theme of fibers is continued onto the under-belly their quality takes on a more bristle like quality. The upper portion houses program for a hotel and theatre. At opposite ends, they are visually separated by a group of large lesions to the shell. The under-belly serves to ingest patrons and processes them to the different programs above.

The building organization was broken into seperate programatic pieces where the public interaction happens at the ground level and the hotel is hovering above. The segregation of the program into floating volumes was a design strategy that dictated a desired behavior of the script to achieve optimal output according to aesthetic sensibilities. The product of the scripting process yielded a fiberous system that traversed the surfaces of the independant tracing patterns on the surface and departing the object to repopulate the next.
