The studio proposes to re-examine the possibilities of form generation as an autonomous entity through the understanding of rituals. Most rituals had the capacity to combine the power of raw mutilations with highly sophisticated formal understanding of organization, as well a saturated and excessive ornament in the instruments of rituals. This particular project is an unraveling of the typical Catholic church organization alluding to the church’s roots in first century in catacombs. Being that the church was defined by community and not rituals the reformation of large spaces to smaller hubs was the central formal theme.
The structural system consists of a sinuous system that encroaches on a prosaic wall-roof assembly. The system begins below ground level (embossed into the ground) and spreads upward and outward determining surface openings and containing smaller rooms within the church's large space.
