I've revisited this project recently remodeling and re-rendering it using Rhino+VRay for the Digital Drawing class at Cornell. To make a contrast with the original competition submission I decided to place it in an urban environment, give it some dynamic atmosphere.
Clockwork Coffee Box was submitted for the Cypress International Competition for Inventive Architecture: Reinterpret. I decided to go beyond a traditional understanding of a coffee shop and have its middle two floors rotating. The shape comes from a 14 m. cube which stands on one of its corners and is sliced into four floors. The second and third floors rotate around the central core that hosts coffee bar, staircase, elevator and technical communications.
