The Solar Pavilion project is a 16’ by 24’ off the grid experimental energy collaboration between RISD Architecture and Brown Engineering. The building was constructed entirely by students during the weekends and was supervised by Professor Jonathan Knowles. Construction was completed June 2010. The south-facing building is intended to generate heat inside the building in effort to create a Stirling engine. The heat inside combined with the coolness of the Providence River adjacent will turn a piston and create energy.
