The revitalization of a decaying neighborhood is accelerated by the implementation of a community center that supports the population, creates a positive identity, and re-stitches urban fabric. The building, as a landmark for renewal, provides the impoverished North End of Springfield with a function hall and public piazza for community gatherings, retail and office spaces to generate local business, and a health clinic. The inviting orientation of the building has much consideration for its surrounding activity generators, parting itself and acting as a passageway that is integrated with public transportation, athletic fields, shopping, the YMCA, and the cathedral.
