The generator for this project was an environmentally friendly material, which in this project was Richlite. Richlite started out being used for industrial purposes and eventually became an architectural finish. It is made from the pulp of post-consumer paper goods and is pressed as opposed to be extruded or cast. The genius of the material is its ability to resist both tensile and compressional pressure. I wanted to explore those themes in my model by playing with Richlite's ability to cantilever and extend itself over existing forms. This ability to cantilever comes from the long, tough fibers inside of Richlite. The color in my model comes from the color Richlite naturally takes on when you apply resin in the manufacturing process.
