Celebrating the Digester: A Proposed Solution for Iron Street Urban Farm

This project transforms an existing truck depot into an urban farm that features an anaerobic digester, and can be used as a prototype for future urban farms.  The first half of the semester was spent researching urban farming and different processes that were used.  The second half of the semester was spent taking an aspect of the research and using it to expand on the program as well as the design.  This project addresses the challenge that Iron Street Farm faces in presenting the anaerobic digester as a face of the organization, making Iron Street a forerunner in the integration of farms into the urban fabric. Four main goals were identified: To celebrate the anaerobic digester, use the digester process to organize the site, maximize the growing space, and encourage the community investment through the market and artwork around the site.
