Visoriai is one of the new residential areas in the northern outskirts of Vilnius city. Here, scattered mixed use buildings hardly form any recognizable image of urban structure or take any legible hints of further urban expansion scenario. Surrounded by the average Vilnius suburban greenery terrain the school lies on slightly undulating surface with sparse clumps of mixed trees and heads a small forest in the west.
Based on Plato‘s Akademia, as school in the garden (park), designed building is fully integrated into existing natural landscape. Free floating units destined for different uses are enfolded by glass corridors and other circulation spaces to maximize the impression of nature‘s proximity and during warm season to transform some of inner room and integrate it in the surroundings. The elementary school is destined for 288 pupils and should become an educational institution for the neighborhood’s children.
