This was a project I worked on while I was employed at Site-Specific Architecture.
"This is a project for a remodel of, and addition to, anexisting 2 story residence on a property in Venice. The lot has two 1920's era houses. The client is a growing family who occupies the back house on the property which abuts the alley. The 274 sq ft, two story area of the addition to the North of the existing structure is enough for the bedrooms to all be accommodated at the 2nd floor and for the common living areas of the house, (living room, kitchen, dining, office) to occupy the ground level. The remodeled home increases it's usable space by reaching out, at the lower level to the limited garden areas around these common areas. The full height doors and windows at the dining / kitchen area are open to a quiet inner garden, while the full height doors of the living room give onto the South light and a small slot of outdoor space at the rear of the house. A roof deck addition further expands the outdoor territory for the family."
