Einstein House Museum, Switzerland

Studio project creating a museum on site of Einstein's residence in 1905. Kramgasse No. 49 in Bern Switzerland is where Albert Einstein lived during his years as a young physicist. This year is recalled by Einstien him self as the "annus mirabilis" doctoral assertion.

The requirments of the project was to design a five story museum and luxury apartment residence with a market at street level.

The design of "Levitating Museum" allows for the museum space to be the center of the site by being suspended over the market area and below the residences. The museum is hoisted up by hidden beam and truss systems exactly to the height of Einsteins room on the upper level floor. From the street the museum is centered in mid air within the entrance facade.

PROGRAM:

The design of the museum celebrates and abstract representation of physics by the representation of:

-Gravity (Defiance of gravity reference to Einsteins intrest in mankind and its love of understanding nature and overcoming its challenges)

-Masses (Front facade and resident tower supporting museum)

-Light (Levitating Museum filters light to lower level of market creating beautiful illusion of floating shaft and shadows below musuem)
