springfield retrofit

This was a studio project where we dealt with the historical district in Springfield, MA. The existing building was an 80,000 square foot building that had sat abandoned for the past fifteen years. Its past program included law offices, a hotel, retail space, and even an outdoor theater. The solution I devised utilized the cellular units efficiently by designing transformable program for housing. I also incorporated a market, an agricultural rooftop, restaurant and galleries to activate the community. I find the concept of retrofitting an existing structure and recycling the space very appealing.
