GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico
The Martínez Family has lived in this residence
for 20 years. They wanted
to give it another look,
but preserving some
important aspects for them.
The original terrace consisted of concrete columns and a
reinforced wood roof. The roof was deteriorated. Also, it’s altitude
and shape made the space very dark. The new design made the
terrace roof higher than the house roof so that natural light
could enter also to the interior. The second ridge helps prevent
rain and too much sun from entering the space.
Since the clients wanted to maintain the trees in the terrace,
the roof was designed for them to be framed in a
modern way but maintaining the sunlight.
