Urban Synthesis - (Mixed Use Complex)

The project occupies a two block site at the northern edge of downtown Orlando.  It is comprised of a series of  buildings containing diverse programs addressing everything from residential to recreational needs.  In order to generate a greater permanent density in the area, a range of housing options are provided.  A twenty-eight story residential tower contains the majority of the units, however smaller scale dwellings are strategically located above ground floor retail spaces bordering two sides of the main public square adjacent to Magnolia Avenue.  The additional two edges of the plaza are bounded by retail buildings which house larger department stores.  The lower four levels of the tower are programmed as a community recreation center, complete with a multi-use field located above two existing parking garages.  In order to accommodate the number of users the project will attract, three levels will be added to two large existing decks, and a smaller seven level deck which engages the housing units along the south edge of the plaza will be built.  All of this is linked by, and accessed via a public stair/corridor which cuts through the block, crosses over Rosalind Avenue and engages a five story parking deck.  This corridor is the catalyst of the project.  In addition to its function as a circulation path, it is strategically located and scaled so that it serves as a stage for the range of activities characteristic of urbanism.
