This project proposes a building as social infrastructure for the purpose of preserving the current social and economic dynamism of a slum community during redevelopment. The site for this project is the Kumbarwada potters village in Mumbai, India.
The building provides 21,000 sq.ft. of community meeting rooms, bathrooms, laundry facilities, office incubator space and open-air market. Its presence in Kumbarwada provides a social infrastructure for effective support and representation in a large-scale participatory planning initiative. This dynamic context ignites new possibilities for circulation and programmatic adjacencies towards an interactive image of the community.
Status: School Project
