NEW YORK CITY THEATER CAMPUS
Located on the site of Manhattan’s Hudson Yards at the end of Diller Scofidio’s High Line, this small campus of theaters and performance spaces addresses its site atypically. Rather than establishing the theater as an object on the static site, the entire ground surface becomes a type of performance. Due to the flat nature of the site, manipulation of this flat plane begins to create envelopes in which the theater objects can be inserted. A second layer below the ground provides a way to connect the different theaters and supporting programs. The two layers are cut and peeled to wrap the theater volumes in circulation. The constantly rising and falling surface creates a dynamic environment for visitors.
