RIO DE JANIERO POST-OLYMPIC HOUSING
Using the model of the favela as a point of departure, this housing proposal intends to retain and reevaluate certain characteristics of the environment created by the favela. Isolated from the Rio de Janiero city center, this community has with several venues to provide for the basic needs for the residents. Housing units accumulate around these critical programmatic site elements with voids developing in response to circulation routes and community spaces for neighborhoods. Accumulation of units occurs in varying ways depending on the units’ adjacency to different venue typologies and purposes. Constant change between corridor and open air platforms, guide pedestrian circulation throughout the complex. The voids existing in the building form contain an assorted number of elements including commercial, parking, and garden spaces that ultimately provide the fundamental needs for the community.
