The skin is the largest organ of the human body and has many different
functions; thermoregulator, protection, metabolic functions,
and sensation. Skin is divided into two main regions, the epidermis, and the dermis,
each providing a distinct role in the overall function and development of skin.
Skin sheathes the body protectively yet lends it sensitivity and feeling. It is a
multi-layered, multipurpose organ that shifts from thick to thin, tight to lose,
lubricated to dry, across the landscape of the body. Skin, a knowledge gathering
device that responds to heat, cold, pleasure and pain. It is both living and dead,
a self repairing, self replacing material whose exterior acts as an armor.
