The Asia Front Village ‘Ideas’ Competition 2004

Senior Architect: Romi Khosla Design Studios

The Route’ is a universal hub, an instant bridge between the East and the West. A modern caravanserai without walls.

The hub is located in innumerable communities through Asia and provides access to economic opportunities, democratic freedom, social aspirations and vast knowledge

The ‘hub’ or the ‘route’ was conceptualised as a non-referential, non-contextual communication pod, devoid of any cultural baggage, and would occur at all present and future cultural nodes. It would then facilitate inter-nodal cultural and economic exchange, and its scale would be governed by usage. Various modules of extension gave the node an organic growth pattern, ensuring that with time, each node would attain an identity, and become a cultural marker, a landmark event, in its context.
I was one of two people responsible for the design and presentation of this competition entry.
