Rivanna River Baths

A low-tech design focused on placing a visitor into an isolated natural refuge, hidden from urban and suburban noise. Located on a nature-preserved bank on the north side of the river, the visitor begins a quiet, peaceful half-mile walk to reach the bathing grounds. This walk allows you to leave your car and ties to urban life behind as you become fully immersed in your visit.  The bath is a field of trees and water alongside the river, with individual outdoor showers and a naturally filtered river pool.  Exit from the bath is another half-mile walk, this time on a boardwalk alongside marshy river banks and the river itself. This design attempts to understand the basic needs of an individual to retreat from city noise, and re-kindle a connection to the natural world.
