Functioning as a supplement to the adjacent brick concert hall, it was important to design an outdoor amphitheater that was connected as well as distinguished from its neighbor. To connect the two projects a large path reaches out from the old hall to the new amphitheater, framing the seating lawn in the process. In order to make the project distinct from the heavy brick hall, a light membrane structure, composed of steel cantilevered trusses and a waterproof fabric, is utilized. The cantilevering allows for a new concert experience that relies upon nature to supply the backdrop.
