1:1 is an architecturally based Section 21 NON PROFIT Collaborative that facilitates design solutions through critical engagement in developing urban areas of South Africa.

1:1 (one to one) refers to a scale of approach toward design; a scale of exercising contemporary theory through active building, a scale of an engagement that reflects humanist values in its approach and its output.

1:1 aims to create a platform for spatial academics and proffesionals to engage and garner their own perspectives of developing areas in South Africa.

1:1 exists as a facilitator of engagement between informal settlement communities and spatial academics and professionals, classifying its role as ‘urban interventionist’.

1:1 has been developed to support government bodies, NGO’s and other civil society members as well as the private sector in support of urban upgrade development.
