Urban Haveli

Private Homes in Mumbai are undergoing a change of typology. Low rise colonial bungalows are being replaced by privately owned ostentatious high rise monoliths taking from the post liberalised economy boom. Scarcity of space and increase in density gives rise to a new typology ' urban haveli 'The design ideas for this building engage such issues of urban aspirations and building policies in the city. This home organises four apartments for members of the same family, as a cluster of duplex and triplex units in a way that exterior and interior spaces wrap around each other to create a sequence of spatial experiences     unfolding in their quality of light and scale. Some inherent qualities of a colonial bungalow are incorporated within this new typology such as connection to green, veranda’s that act as a visual connection to the streets and the differing views as one transcends vertical.
