Sumptuary Performance intervenes in the shopping experience on the Broadway Street Corridor by integrating all phases of production, from manufacturing to retail in a single experience. The combined environment provides unique spatial qualities by grafting and reorganizing retail, manufacturing, and public gathering spaces together according to the performative aspects of production. The machines involved in the production sequence are altered to be either structural components within the buildings, or reconfigure the convention expectations of the shopping experience. Visitors can sit in a park space, shop in a retail store, or eat a restaurant a few stories above the ground where they are surrounded by the raw materials moving through machines. The production spaces are combined with retail spaces forming a unique dialogue as the material is transferred from production to distribution.
