Part of a collaborative study for the adaptive transformation of rowhouses in Pittsburgh's Lawrenceville neighborhood, the rental pod proposal features retrofitted shipping containers stacked vertically to make use of their inherent structural capabilities. Placed next to the existing house to expand livable floor area, the pods provide an entry, bathroom, and kitchen to the upper two floors of the house, catering to growing families and rental users. 

An ADA ramp is integrated into the pod structure in order to allow access from the sidewalk to the first floor. This makes the pod a viable option for elderly assisted living in Lawrenceville. This transformation builds upon Lawrenceville's front porch culture. The lowest level pod becomes an open space for outdoor living, accessible via an ADA ramp from the existing kitchen. Renters or other occupants of the upper two floors access their units by an exterior stair.
