New Orleans Music Startup Incubator

Kimball furniture gave my class this as a project for a coworking space using their furniture. My partner and I were given the city of New Orleans, so we decided to design an incubator space for three music startups that fill music venues, create music apps, and do branding services for musicians. Based off of our research on productive office spaces, we developed the concept of spontaneous interaction because those kinds of interactions stimulate creativity and productivity. We applied this to our design by making the space encourage spontaneous interactions along the main paths of circulation using Kimball furniture. We also included a public cafe and performance stage so that the employees of these startups can have spontaneous interactions with the public in ways that stimulates their work. We wanted to use refurbished materials, which is why the wooden flooring is salvaged wood from historic homes damaged from hurricane Katrina, and we include salvaged instruments throughout the space. The overall atmosphere of the space we wanted to keep in line with what we noticed about New Orleans, that vibrant, eclectic atmosphere that encourages new ideas.
