Center for the Study of Vietnamese Architecture

Vietnam has a rich and diverse history that is especially evident in its varied building types.  Moving forward with architecture, the most important contexts to respond to are those that have been consistent through the history of Vietnam; which are culture, climate, and active street life.

CULTURE:  create opportunities for interaction, use local materials, keep the project budget friendly.

CLIMATE:  always hot, seasonal severe rain.  Should influence building shape to allow for passive ventilation and natural lighting; create outdoor covered areas.

ACTIVE STREET LIFE:  make the site an interaction with the public regardless of entering the building.  Create opportunities for pause, discussion, and reflections of Vietnam.
