NoMoSiFa, No More Single Family housing is a prototype to address Houston’s lack of housing density, a lack that results in unsustainable urban sprawl. The project researched the needs and wants of a rural/suburban house and applied this ideal (Garage-House-Pool) to a more dense lifestyle. Also examined was the medieval burgage plot - a narrow rented house that compares to the modern townhouse. But in the case of the medieval burgage, people would sleep, entertain, cook, and relax within the same common area. Thus the burgage encouraged a “community within a community” in the household. Today housing styles such as the “Shotgun house” are in close juncture, but the plots are situated stacked to leave ample space for pools and gardens, which imply the rural feel of natural areas and growing seasonal crops for family needs.
