A 500 sq. ft. vacation home for a Japanese filmmaker in Mount Baldy, Upland, CA. The design was derived by addressing the topography and the 500 sq.ft. limit while froming a balance in layers, diffused lighting and views of the Inland Valley. The triangulated shell houses the service areas of the home while the curved gestures hold the relaxation part of the program. These were projected on a floor plan to define the covered and outdoor spaces. The axes of the ellipse in plan are oriented to enforce a smooth circulation and send visual interest outward.
