Located in the entirely man-made Venice, Italy, the overall idea for the Sala Concerti was to create a building which matches the typological nature of Venice, yet contradicts it simultaneously. Instead of creating one massive program block containing of a concert hall, dining facility and practice space, the building was broken into one hall and two tall and slender structures akin to typical Venetian residences. The skin was designed through analyzing and predicting the impact flow of natural forces and pedestrian use on the site. This resulted in a building which juxtaposed traditional design styles yet remained contextually aware.
