Bachelor's Residence

Developed through a series of phases at various scales, this project engages the inhabitant on a temporal basis at a narrow property in Long Island. The structure transforms in response to both diurnal as well as seasonal changes. The essentially flat site negotiates pedestrian traffic from neighboring properties, and an eight foot drop to mean high tide. To accommodate these variables, I chose to elevate the primary habitable spaces above grade, and incorporate an overflow water collection area within the concrete foundation. The circulation pattern provides opportunities for al fresco dining, perspectival views to the ocean anticipating its phenomenology, and
terminates at a teak wood roof deck, featuring a cantilevered concrete lap pool.
