Comprehensive Coastal Communities Competition, Nomination

After Sandy, affected homeowners now face three basic options: relocate, repair, or rebuild. The combination of all three of these techniques will damage the fabric of established coastal communities. In addition to mandating resilient design, these towns need new ideas on how to maintain their current character, while still being resilient during this substantial rebuilding phase.

Entrants are asked to address a specific Northeastern coastal community, research the damage to that area and local community character. Then design a ‘prototype’ resilient housing typology responding to the local conditions and integrate the prototype into a neighborhood context in the scale of the neighborhood block.
